Program Outline

The complete CMA program consists of two parts. The program is renewed for 2020 and the English CMA program at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam will follow the new program outlines of 2020 to prepare its’ candidates for the exams. The two parts cover 12 competencies in total:

Part 1: Financial Planning, Performance, and Analytics

•    External Financial Reporting Decisions (15%);
•    Planning, Budgeting, and Forecasting (20%);
•    Performance Management (20%);
•    Cost Management (15%);
•    Internal Controls (15%);
•    Technology and Analytics (15%).

Part 2:  Strategic Financial Management

•    Financial Statement Analysis (20%);
•    Corporate Finance (20%);
•    Decision Analysis  (25%);
•    Risk Management (10%);
•    Investment Decisions (10%);
•    Professional Ethics (15%).

The percentages behind the topics indicate the weight for each topic per exam. More details about the content and topics of the new CMA Program is covered in the Learning Outcome Statements and Content Specification Outlines.

Both the exams of CMA Part 1 and CMA Part 2 are four hour exams, taken in a Prometric Test Center. Each exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions (3 hours) and essay questions (1 hour). Candidates can start with either Part 1 or Part 2. More information about taking the exam can be found in the CMA Candidate Handbook.

Passrates
The pass rates of the CMA exams are usually between 60% and 70% in the Netherlands. The average pass rate worldwide is 40% and about 55% in the US.
