Institute of Management Accounting
The American Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) is founded in 1919. This organization has more than 80,000 members, making it the largest organization of management accountants in America (the second largest in the world). The IMA aims to increase the level of knowledge and professionalism of Management Accountants. To achieve this, the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA) has been established. This institute organizes the CMA exam for the IMA. To participate in this exam a IMA membership is required. The cost of this membership are currently $230 per year (one-time $15 extra for registration fee)*. The members of the IMA receive monthly the American magazine Strategic Finance, a leading financial magazine.
In 1972, the education for CMA's started. The American CMA diploma will be awarded after obtaining both CMA exams and at least two years of practical experience in a financial-economic field. The exam is taken at various locations in the United States and since 1991 in the Netherlands.
